Necky Kayaks

Necky® introduced its first kayak in the mid-1970s, hoping to improve upon traditional British kayak designs. The goal: to create a stable, roomy, comfortable vessel that the average paddler could maneuver on the ocean. To do this, Necky adapted a high-volume whitewater design, adding more length, width, and a larger cockpit than the traditional version.

By the 1980s Necky had begun manufacturing composite touring kayaks and also introduced the first polymer model. Less expensive than fiberglass designs, the polymer model also had the advantage of being virtually indestructible.

By working with experts in both the aerospace and yachting industries using aircraft-grade materials, Necky, a Johnson Outdoors® brand, has been able to produce laminates that yield kayaks that are significantly stronger, stiffer, and lighter than anything else on the market.
