May 27, 2025 Flounder, stripers, salmon, lake trout, and rainbow trout were the lead story this week. We are hearing from most anglers and shops that the bass fishing isn’t what most would expect in late May, due to cooler than normal weather. Salmon and trout fishing, on the other hand, have been on fire. Fishing Report May 19, 2025

Despite the weather, the fishing is hot just about everywhere. Striped bass continue their migration up the coast and reports are better each week. Haddock fishing is still great, lake trout and salmon catches are excellent on Sebago and Winnipesaukee, trout stocking continues throughout New England, and bass reports for both smallmouth and largemouth are heating up daily. The weather hasn’t been great, but that hasn’t seemed to stop the fish from biting. Just about everyone who braved the elements has reported very good catches. Trolling on Sebago and Winnipesaukee has been very good, trout stocking continues weekly, flounder reports around Boston Harbor have been reportedly very good, and there are fresh stripers showing up around Boston and Plum Island daily. Spring is many anglers’ favorite time of year to fish, and for good reason. We are hearing great reports of trolling for trout and salmon, better flounder bites around Boston Harbor, and striped bass moving into southern New England in greater numbers. Every day is like a new day with many species shaking off the winter lull and feeding aggressively. Bass fishing is also picking up, as are white perch, and black crappie. Water temps are heating up, and so is the fishing. Trout stocking continues to spread out throughout New England and wild trout populations are beginning to become more active. Stripers are making their way north and should be arriving in better numbers along south and central Massachusetts any day.
