Fishing Report April 20, 2026

Fresh and salt are both kicking off. Stripers continue their migration north, but holdovers in Boston Harbor are keeping many busy while they wait. Trout have been stocked all over southern New England and trout pond season opens this Saturday in New Hampshire. Sebago and Winnipesaukee continue to produce trout and salmon trolling, but Sebago has been a standout this spring, with some very nice salmon being caught. Fishing Report April 13, 2026

Most central and southern waters are ice free or mostly ice free. Ice-out was declared on Winnipesaukee last weekend and anglers are reporting good salmon and rainbow trout catches. Stocking trucks are rolling in Southern New Hampshire and throughout Massachusetts. Migrating stripers have reportedly reached Connecticut waters, but holdovers are keeping many busy in and around Boston Harbor rivers. Warm weather this week should kick things into high gear. Fishing Report April 6, 2026

Spring is here and things are happening. Reports are that Sebago is mostly ice-free and Winnipesaukee is close behind. Salmon season is open on Winnipesaukee and there have been many anglers out in small boats and kayaks, or fishing from shore for rainbow trout and salmon. Local trout ponds are being stocked throughout Massachusetts and some New Hampshire rivers are producing good catches. As most anglers have packed up their ice fishing gear due to the loss of ice or the lack of safe ice, shops and guides are following suit. Guides across New England have stopped running trips and begun focusing on open water preparations. Almost every shop has transitioned to open water, except for last minute deals on remaining ice fishing inventory. There is very little fishing activity, but not none. Most people consider the 2026 ice fishing season to be over, but there are still a few anglers looking to take advantage of the great March fishing. We caution everyone to be very careful out there if you head out ice fishing. The latest freeze/thaw cycles have opened up large holes and fissures that have skimmed over and are now covered with snow. Areas that look safe may not be.
