Records show that as far back as 1774, the Birkenstocks of Germany were making shoes. Sometime around the turn of the century, the family began experimenting with a contoured insole, assuming a shoe that fit the shape of our foot would only be more comfortable than the norm. The idea was a hit and the Birkenstock® arch support was born.
