In 1987, after receiving his English degree from Middlebury College, Kip Stone moved to Maine where he had family ties and a passion for being on the ocean. He was one of the first to spot an economic opportunity in harvesting sea urchins from Maine’s rocky coast, and established a seasonal urchin diving business selling to an eager Japanese market.

In the spring of 1988, Kip and artist Liz Coombe founded Artforms® to design and print original art onto quality garments, with the goal of building it into a world-class, customer service oriented company. Over the last 25+ years, it has grown to supply destination markets across the U.S. and throughout the Caribbean.
