Necky Chatham 16 Polymer Kayak w/ Skeg - 2014 Model

Necky Chatham 16 Polymer Kayak w/ Skeg - 2014 Model

The Chatham Series - Greenland inspired coastal play boats built to tame the biggest conditions - high winds, surf, and tidal races. Their hard chined / soft edged hulls offer the ultimate in stability and handling on edge to dig in and out of rock gardens or taking that unexpected wave.

The Necky® design team thought of everything from offering outstanding neutrality in wind to help reduce weather-cocking to placing the recessed compass mount in a location that reduces sea sickness. Equally at home on Vancouver's West Coast, playing in the 8+ knot currents of Deception Pass, or camping along the Maine Island Trail, Chathams are the ultimate performers in rough water conditions where high wind and rough seas prevail.

The Chatham 16 is an ideal coastal explorer with great maneuverability and superb rough water performance. The full-chined hull provides great stability and quick response to edging and lean turns.

Necky® introduced its first kayak in the mid-1970s, hoping to improve upon traditional British kayak designs. The goal: to create a stable, roomy, comfortable vessel that the average paddler could maneuver on the ocean. To do this, Necky adapted a high-volume whitewater design, adding more length, width, and a larger cockpit than the traditional version.

By the 1980s Necky had begun manufacturing composite touring kayaks and also introduced the first polymer model. Less expensive than fiberglass designs, the polymer model also had the advantage of being virtually indestructible.

By working with experts in both the aerospace and yachting industries using aircraft-grade materials, Necky, a Johnson Outdoors® brand, has been able to produce laminates that yield kayaks that are significantly stronger, stiffer, and lighter than anything else on the market.
