Archery Hunter Safety Course

Our archery class that was scheduled for July 22 has been moved to July 25. The August 1, 2020 date remains the same. Please note: These classes are full. To be added to our waitlist, please call customer service at 888-587-6246.

Kittery Trading Post is pleased to offer our Hunter Safety (Archery) Course free to the general public. By Maine state law, individuals must complete a hunter education course prior to buying a basic hunting (archery) license, or be able to show a previously issued license of the same type. If you would like to refresh your knowledge of safe and responsible hunting, then taking a hunter education course is a great idea.

PART 1: Saturday, July 25, 9am–12:30pm (FULL)
PART 2: Saturday, August 1, 9am–6pm  (FULL)

The following protocols will have to be taken for all safety classes (per MDIFW):

- All Students will have their temperatures taken before class.  Anyone with a tempurature over 100 will not be allowed to take the class.

- All students MUST wear a face covering.

- All students must bring their own writing utensil, food and water.

- All students will have assigned seating.

- All students will enter and exit through marked doorways.


The Home Study Course consists of about 9 hours of classroom instruction broken up into a 3 hour introduction followed by  one day of classroom and activities. Students are required to complete a workbook which complements the student manual. Students must demonstrate to the instructor that they can safely handle a bow, participate in activities, bring in a survival kit with appropriate contents and pass a 50 question test with a grade of at least 70%.

This Archery Safety Course at Kittery Trading Post, presented by North Berwick Rod and Gun Club, is taught by Gary Rohm in our Katahdin seminar room. The class is limited to 40 people and usually fills up fast. From the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife:

An archery education course will provide a student with a wealth of knowledge regarding equipment, proper hunting methods, responsibilities, and general safety. Most classes will have some outdoor exercises. Passage of a final exam is required. You must attend every day of the class in order to receive your certificate.

 If you would like to refresh your knowledge of safe and responsible hunting, then taking a hunter education course is a great idea.
