Sierra Designs

George Marks and Bob Swanson started Sierra Designs� in 1965 with the sole focus of designing outdoor equipment that would enhance the wilderness experience. Over the years, the company has created mountains of new products and technologies that have traveled to the highest peaks, withstood 230 mph winds, stood in the face of torrential downpours and beat the odds of mother nature herself.

How did they accomplish this? By knowing that better products make the outdoor experience much more enjoyable. In its 40-year history Sierra Designs has led the way in introducing those better products with the advent of the 60/40 Mountain Parka, the Hercules tent and DAC Featherlite Poles. All this and they're dedicated to the planet's future, too!

The company has in place an initiative called the Green Effect Program whereby the company employs a number of earth-saving policies: using wind power to light up the home office and warehouse spaces; offering Moda woven shirts made of natural beechwood chips; and using recycled pop and water bottles for its Polartec recycled fleece.
